The BVU-150 is larger and heavier than the VO-6800. It incorporates Sony's Superior Performance (SP) technology, to offer higher picture quality in a portable U-matic. Also among the new refinements is the Dolby C noise reduction system which gives improved audio performance.

Both of the above benefits depend upon use of Sony's SP video cassettes. However the BVU-150 is suitable for use with conventional cassettes.

The VTR incorporates video confidence heads which allow simultaneous playback of material while recording. The video heads deliver a high quality colour picture without the use of any external equipment.
